Waking up 30 and feeling so grateful & Thankful to be able to celebrate another year of my life. For some reason as we start to get older, we start to dread it. Dread our Birthdays. And that shouldn’t be the case. Why do people dread it? Birthdays are to be celebrated. Another year lived on earth with the people we love. Like so many other women, I’ve suffer with abnormal cells on my cervix. I have for years. Since the age of 22 I’ve had to have smear tests every 3/6 months. I’ve had each grade of them now. 1-3 along with carrying the virus. I’ve had the LETZ procedure done more times then I can count ( where they laser your cervix to remove them ). 2 years ago I started showing random symptoms, that when I presented to the clinic, I was put on high alert and was brought in the next day to have tests done. That dreaded word no women ever wants to hear “ cervical cancer “. Aged 28. Sitting in hospital room, hearing all this. Lump in my throat and tears steaming down my face. I have a 6 year old son at home and haven’t lived even a quarter of my life yet. I had swabs after swabs taken. A D&C operation. Tests on my tubes, ovaries, everything. An MRI. Blood test, after blood test. I had a total of over 20 hospital appointments, each one as daunting as each other because of the unknown. Although I still have this unknown symptom, I’m so lucky I didn’t present with that horrible disease. So yes I’m over excited to be celebrating my 30th & I will for each foreseeable Birthday I’m lucky to have. Embrace getting to grow old. It’s something some people aren’t lucky enough to get to do. Here’s to my 40’s Here’s to my 50’s Here’s to my 60’s And so on... So go get your plane tickets and go explore the world. I also hope this will also raise awareness for any woman who hasn’t had her smear test done. Please go and book one. Recovery 🧡 A big focus this week in Flux is recovery for both mind and body and how we can build strong and fun habits to facilitate this better into our lives. We all hear how important recovery is, but for a lot of us, it’s difficult to take the time to do it and really commit to it long term. I totally get it! Working out seems to be easier for us to stay committed too and build strong routines around, perhaps it's because working out leaves us feeling strong, accomplished and empowered. Who doesn’t love feeling that way? Exercise is an important part of staying fit and healthy, but recovery is just as (if not more! ) important. Rest and recovery allow our bodies to rebuild the tissue we've broken down through exercise, which, in turn, makes us stronger!

Consistency is 🔑. So far this week I've stuck to my 1400 cals and the fluctuations are slowing coming down. My bestie might be visiting tonight (though her sis who's almost due is being kept in hospital due to high blood pressure so she might have to cancle to care for her nephews ) so I've half a bottle of wine in the diary and dinner and breakfast logged. I've bought a few dippy snacks (olives, hummus, crisps etc ) but haven't logged them as I don't know if I'll be eating them?! Variation is important as well. Work with a variety of rep ranges and cycle through them, chase progressive overload each week. Sticking with one rep range will make it harder to progress. Also, adding in a bench press variation is great. Since building my bench is a goal, I do close grip bench press when I hit arms. I work with a higher rep range, and it will carry over to your bench strength 💪🏻

Lastly eat enough! You’re going to need to fuel your workouts, especially if you’re a hardgainer. If your training frequency is adequate and you train properly, but your strength has stalled. Evaluate the diet. Are you eating enough? If you are unaware, start tracking to get an idea. These also make great meal prep meals! Stir Fry Cook rice according the package instructions. Meanwhile, cube and press your tofu to remove excess water. In a skillet on medium heat, add the tofu with the liquid aminos (can use soy sauce or tamari instead ) and cook until tofu becomes golden and crispy on the outside. Add chopped veggies and stir occasionally for a few minutes until they become soft and tender. Add desired spices. Serve the stir fry mixture over rice. Lentil Bowl Cook lentils according to the package instructions. In another pan heat up your chopped vegetables with a tablespoon or two of water until they become soft. Add desired spices. Serve in a bowl over lentils with avocado and lime juice. Coconut Curry Cook the noodles according to the packaging instructions. In a large skillet over low heat, add tbsp or two of water, then add the red curry paste. Heat for a couple minutes, then add the coconut milk and stir. Add the two cups of boiling water, then add in the carrot, pepper, zucchini, and mushrooms, and cook for a few minutes until tender. What are you training for? ✨⠀ That’s the question one of the trainers at the gym asked me the other day while I was stretching after my workout.⠀ My automatic response: “For fun!” 🤸‍♀️ ⠀ •⠀ While I was walking home after I thought more about it. What AM I training for? What is the WHY behind my workouts? ⠀ And I came up with a whole list of things:⠀ ⠀ I’m training for fun⠀ For strength⠀ For flexibility ⠀ For agility⠀ For stamina⠀ For a healthy heart⠀ For strong bones⠀ As a stress relief⠀ As a motivation booster⠀ As an energiser⠀ Because it makes me feel happy⠀ Because it makes me feel inspired ⠀ Because it makes me feel confident⠀ So that I can live longer ⠀ I’m training for LIFE⠀ •⠀ That’s a whole bunch of reasons that have nothing to do with weight-loss or how I look.⠀ There’s nothing wrong with having aesthetic goals! But if your primary motivations are based on looks, it suggests to me that it’s not coming from a place of love for yourself, but rather from a place of fear. There are so many AMAZING reasons to exercise that are focused around health and feeling good, rather than looking good! ⠀ ⭐️ What are you training for? ⭐️ ⠀ Let me know ⬇️

I received so many messages asking about by Monday (and yesterday’s even that it wasn’t shown ) lunch and I am obsessed with them because they are light and delicious so I decided to share with you a recipe I am using! . Courgette Fritters Ingredients * 3 medium zucchini, shredded * 1 small onion, grated * 2 small garlic cloves, grated * 1 large egg, whisked * 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (I actually used almond flour ) * 1 tsp salt, divided * Ground black pepper, to taste * Greek yogurt, for topping * Cooking spray Instructions 1. Make shredded zucchini using a food processor or grater. Place shredded zucchini mixed with 1 tsp of salt in a colander over the sink and let sit for 10 minutes. 2. In the meanwhile, grate onion and garlic, and place in a medium mixing bowl. Whisk in the egg. 3. Using your hands, squeeze the liquid out of courgette as much as you can. Courgette do not have to be completely dry and squeezed out with cheesecloth like for the cauliflower crust, but should be pretty dry. Add to the same bowl as onion, garlic and egg along with flour, dill, remaining salt and pepper. Stir well to combine. 4. Preheat oven to 200C line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Fill large ice cream scoop with batter, place on prepared baking sheet and flatten with the back of the scoop. You can also use big spoon or a small laddle. Repeat with remaining batter. Bake for 10 – 12 minutes, flip and bake for another 10 – 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and serve hot or cold topped with Greek yogurt.

Exercise of the week: Sumo Deadlift • Target muscles: Glutes, Quads, Hamstrings, adductors, traps and spinal erectors. • The glutes are targeted to a high degree by the sumo deadlift, primarily due to the foot/hip placement in the setup. The hip is placed in external rotation, which in turn involves the glutes to a higher degree, making this a great movement to target the glutes as well as being great for working the hams and quads and inner thighs. Your core musculature is taxed to a high degree with this lift too as it is essential for stabilising the lower back. The Sumo is also great for the trapezius and upper back muscles as they are used to maintain positioning of the torso and aid in the upward pulling motion. A great all round compound lift hitting a lot of muscles giving you a good bang for your buck. As with all lifts like these they require good technique to maximise results and avoid injury. If you are unsure how to perform this lift, get in touch for advice or book in for a free consultation. • 🏋️‍♀️ Load barbell with appropriate weight (use bumper plates if necessary ) • 🏋️‍♀️ Stand with a wide stance and feet turned out so that the flat part of your shins rest against the bar. • 🏋️‍♀️ Make sure the bar is positioned close to your shins. • 🏋️‍♀️ Hold barbell with an overhand/alternate grip with hands positioned directly under the shoulders. • 🏋️‍♀️ Sit back into your hips with a straight back until you feel a stretch in your hamstrings and look ahead. • 🏋️‍♀️ Brace the core as if someone is about to punch you hard in the gut. • 🏋️‍♀️ Concentrate on pushing the floor away with your feet rather than pulling the bar up. This forces you to direct your focus to using the legs and core rather than pulling and putting to much stress on the lower back. • 🏋️‍♀️ Bring the bar up until you are standing fully upright being careful not to hyperextend the spine (bend too far back ) • 🏋️‍♀️ Touch the floor for each rep and repeat for desired amount of reps. • 🏋️‍♀️ Remember to nail your technique before adding more weight to the bar! • For personal training enquires DM or email ccoptimalfitness @gmail com • #sumodeadlift #legday #gluteusmaximus

⭐️GYM INTIMIDATION⭐️ . Being new to working out in the gym can be intimidating as I’m sure most people found when starting out If you keep at it you quickly realise that, for the most part, no one is even paying attention to you. Today was the first time I’ve felt uncomfortable in a gym in years. Despite having pretty much chosen which gym I want to join, I thought I’d try out the last one in my area just to be sure. About 30s in I decided I didn’t like it, for some reason this gym was filled with groups of men who had no hesitation whatsoever to just watch you. Being stared at whilst I was trying to figure out where the machines and weights I wanted were was enough to put me off for the rest of my work out. Was starting to wonder if someone had stuck something to my back.
