(From Supertraining ). The organization of training is an art I don't post often these days, but I'm still continually looking at more ways to integrate what I know in the creation of cycles. One of my favorite modes of work is a high-frequency model, especially with athletes who have a powerful nervous system and are more in the fascial dimension vs. the muscle driven camp. (Muscle driven needs more rest ). The high frequency model shown reminds me of an Australian jumps training template where athletes would jump Mon/Thurs, sprint Tues/Fri, lift Wed/Sat. Good advice to keep in mind! Posted @withrepost@recruit her.llc So much hype around September 1! Will a coach call? Will a coach email? Will it be at 12:01 am? What if I didn’t hear anything? Don’t fret, coaches work differently. Hopefully you’ve put the work in to get on the radar at schools you are interested in and have not been relying on a coach to spot you at a tournament. If not, don’t worry, there is still time to find a fit, but you’ll need to put some work in over the fall/winter. And really, for most recruits, now is when the relationship work starts - coach visits, unofficial visits, official visits and overnights - coaches should be getting a sense of how a potential student athlete enhances the team on and off the field as part of the decision process - and all coaches do this differently. 🚨*UNPOPULAR TRUTH ALERT*🚨 The best exercise to have strong abs/core is not crunches or leg raises or any other “prime mover” exercises! The true function of the abs/ core is to STABILIZE YOUR BODY! If you have trained with me you’ve heard this rant so I apologize, if you haven’t trained with me - keep reading and learn you somethin. 🤓 When training your abs you should be attacking much more than just your “six pack.” You need to understand - to have strong abs, you need a strong core, which ranges from just under your chest all the way down and around to your glutes! This group of muscles are what give you a sexy looking, defined core, but it also stabilizes the spine and disks, protecting them from unnatural bending or twisting. So with that being said, we need to attack our core in a different way that doesn’t just work the six pack. In my gym, I’ll have my clients hit the core by bracing in different ways, i.e. front carries, suitcase walks, farmer walks, and my favorite - the Pallof press! 💪🏼 The Pallof press is not something you saw Pauly D and the jersey shore guys doing at the gym but it should be!! To put it simply, it’s an anti-rotation exercise. So as you see in the video, I have my clients using a band, stepping out to where there’s tension, slight bend in the knees, then pressing their arms out (in different variations ). When your arms are tucked in close to your chest, your body is all tight and it’s easy to resist the band pulling you. As soon as you press out it gets much more difficult to resist letting the band turn you around and forces you to engage your entire core! This not only builds a sleeker core because you’re working it from every angle, but also leads to better balance and a strong center of power for any type of movement you do on a daily basis! This is an exercise I program for everyone! You can make it harder by holding the press for a few seconds or adding weight on a cable machine/ stepping out further if you’re using bands. These are just some of the variations you can do but start simple by pushing straight out. Enjoy! 💪🏼👊🏼🤓
