😍 #Repost @morphosisarchitects ( @get_repost ) ・・・ A proposal for the Spreebogen 1993 international competition to redesign Berlin’s new administrative district. From the boards: “Our architecture attempts to open up a new kind of criticism of the traditional methods of translating the social and institutional sphere into built form. The lines in Spreebogen are continually connecting and reconnecting, but the idea was to represent an intentional/causal understanding of the relationships between the departments + the everyday life of the city as it intersects government. All of this challenges the isolation, autonomy, and monumentalization of government. The Reichstag is left as an historic emblem of the statist past. The Tiergarten is the opposite — an open landscape. In the end, both the site and the city beyond are not singular systems, but complex organisms.” . . . #thommayne #morphosis #masterplan #masterplanning #urban #urbanplanning #urbandesign #spreebogen #arch #architecture #architecturecompetition #morphosisarchive #berlin #design #arquiteta #arkitekt #architekt #architetto #archilovers

From the archives – the Higashi Azabu Office Building, an unbuilt project for a narrow sliver of a site in Tokyo, designed in 1989. The narrowness of the building is exaggerated by a splintering strategy that generates ambiguous boundaries while organizing function. An analogy is drawn between the delineated layers of the building and the inherent additive nature of the city. Video by @jasmineinthepark
