🔥How to build muscle mass🔥by @Dancudes - Follow @workout_routins for daily fitness/nutrition tips & education 📚 . Building muscle mass is hard. It is simplistic in the sense that you simply just got to train hard with progressive overload and a small caloric surplus, but it is a grind. Right now, I am in more of a skill building phase, but I'm about a month off a mass building phase where I went from 155lbs to 170lbs in 9 months. - To build muscle mass, you need to make sure you're doing the right things that I have covered on this page multiple times, but also some things that people don't always remember. For example, I see people doing 10 different exercises for a single muscle in a single workout because you have to "shock the muscle". By no means is this necessary, but rather only 2 to 4 exercises per muscle group is optimal. - Furthermore, chasing the pump and half-repping is not ideal. Though a nice pump is awesome, only chasing it is not optimal to build muscle because it typically means you're not producing enough mechanical tension. In terms of range of motion, please take the muscle through its full ROM. In calisthenics, the rule is it doesn't count unless you lock out and I believe this should apply for all modalities of training. Finally, focus on your form. Don't neglect it in favour of more weight. - Quality of your reps matters way more than the weight in the bar especially in terms of muscular activation force production. Do you do Goodmornings?....because you should - When done correctly they are a great accessory leg day movement that help strengthen your glutes and hamstrings. - My tips for this movement: • load the bar lower on your back for this movement as to take pressure off your neck when in the hinge position • be sure to sit back in those heels, driving the hips back behind you as you hinge from the waist • keep the legs as stiff as possible while avoiding locking at the knees in order to get a deep stretch on the hamstrings • control the eccentric part of the movement to really feel the tension in the glutes and hamstrings on the way down. • maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement and finish with your shoulders, hips, and feet back in line. - NOTE WORTH MENTIONING. I didn’t realize until I saw this video(part of the reason it’s good to film yourself ) that I need to work on keeping my neck neutral towards the end of the movement. Notice I keep my chin slightly tucked in as I come to the upright position, this should be corrected! Monday’s are for heavy ass squats. Worked up to a single rep again, then dropped the weight back and did 3 sets of 6. Week by week I’m feeling more confident in my lifts! I still struggle staying tight under the bar, but we are making progress. My other struggle is having weak hamstrings and glutes compared to my quads, so I don’t sit far enough back in my squat. Like I said I have improved every week and this just makes me more @motivated to continue working! Seeing progress is amazing, but even when the progress isn’t seen you just have to keep grinding or you’ll never see results. Big thanks to some of the knowledgeable and experienced powerlifters that have been helping me find my way and push me to my limits. I’ve spent a lot of hours in this gym and coming into year 5 I’m finally feeling like I have a great foundation to build on! Normally my social media posts are silent videos, but in this one I’m actually talking - can you believe it? : ) . I’m talking in this video (feel free to turn the sound on to hear the instructions ) because this is a clip from my brand new online practice that just released in my online class library today! . I love this low lunge “sit-back” move because it takes our classic low lunge pose and adds more lower body loading to the equation 💪🏽 . As I sit my hips back toward my back heel, my quadriceps on my back leg are working *as they lengthen* to control my lower down. This is a great eccentric strength training opportunity for them! (You could also make it more challenging by pointing the back foot instead of tucking the toes under like I’m doing in this video. ) . As I lift my hips back up into my low lunge again, I use the hamstrings of my front leg to help pull me up. I can enhance this by making sure to dig that front heel down into the floor and pull it back in order to help lift me up. . In this video, I also have my front foot on a yoga blanket. The blanket has a subtle effect of creating a bit of instability in my low lunge, which will make me have to work harder to keep my balance. . This new online class is called “Evil Blanket Strength” (do you like that name? 😜 ) and it’s an awesome flow that’s full of a bunch of my current favorite ways to build strength through full ranges of motion using sliding blanket (or towel, glider disc, etc. ) work! . The move in this video isn’t actually the best example of this because the blanket isn’t sliding here - it’s just holding still. But just about all of the other movements in the class involve dynamic sliding with the blanket, and let me tell you! There’s a reason this class has the name “evil” in its title 😈 .
