College Basketball athlete @kquain24 using stability and proprioceptive training to prevent injury and improve her performance. For years, players and coaches have relied on ankle braces or tape to keep from rolling their ankles and preventing sprains—but those methods won't solve the issue. What does? A combination of strength training, stability, mobility and Proprioceptive exercises. Proprioception is the body's ability to realize its place in space. If an athlete is moving into a position that could sprain his or her ankle, increased proprioception can decrease the risk by alerting the athlete to the danger. Stability training refers to performing exercises while on an unstable surface with the goal of activating stabilizers and trunk muscles. An athlete with superior balance and awareness will be able to control his or her body more effectively.

Excited to have @kylemeadows7 join my team and help me get stronger and more explosive. Kyle ran me through various power evaluation tests to notice which ones of my muscles groups are strong and which needs to get stronger and more stable. We did this to figure out what we need to work on to be able to become more explosive and faster. Currently I generate a lot of power in my legs but my core and upper body is not strong enough to transfer the power from the legs up through the body and eventually out to the club. Got some work to do and a lot of days being sore as heck.. I'm working on myself for myself by myself. . Having an Instagram fitness account is a tight line- I always wonder if I'm appearing too much like a douche bag which is definitely not my intention😅😂 I'm out here posting photos and videos which may hopefully either inspire people to go to the gym and work on getting their life more active/healthy and/or help people with exercise ideas or workouts which they can do at the park, at the gym or at home🙌 . 🚨Find your legs!⤵️ #theextra10 • 🧠The idea of this exercise is to lean as far forward as possible before letting the bands go. Once you release the bands you’ll have to run forward to prevent yourself from falling • 🥅The goal is to regain a stable position by getting your legs back under your body as quick as possible • 🏈⚾️This has an incredible sport carry over. Many sports involve situations that require you to regain your footing to make a play. A couple examples that immediately come to mind are football, and baseball. In football, receiving a pass often involves reaching forward, especially on low throws. However, to get the most out of the play, you not only need to catch the ball, but run with it as well. The transition between catching and running depends solely on your ability to regain balance by getting your legs back under you. The quicker your legs get back under you, the sooner you can start running, and the sooner you can start running, the more yards you can gain. When it comes to baseball, much like football, catching a ball may require you to lean forward. The difference being that in baseball, you’re most likely going to be throwing the ball as oppose to running it. In order to effectively throw the ball after catching it, you must be able to regain your footing. The quicker you can regain your footing, the sooner you can throw the ball, and the sooner you can throw the ball, the more likely you are to get the runner out. Throwing someone out on a ground ball, and throwing someone out on a sacrifice fly, are two very common ‘real game’ scenarios that require this ability •

Explosive workout . Plyometrics are explosive exercises that increase speed, quickness and power. Most exercises include “jumping,” in which the muscles exert maximal effort and force in short bouts or intervals of time. The goal is to move from the eccentric to concentric phase of a movement rapidly while using proper biomechanics. Plyometrics are often used to train athletes or highly fit individuals. Because they require high force and can be tough on the lower-extremity joints, especially the knees, intense plyometrics are not recommended for novice exercisers. Anyone incorporating plyometric exercises should have an established workout and strength routine, because many of these exercises require strong ligaments and tendons. Individuals can progress lightly into plyometrics before incorporating more advanced and explosive moves. Some clients may never develop to performing true explosive plyometric exercises, but can benefit from lower-intensity movements. Reps or timed work-to-rest intervals can be incorporated into both one-on-one or group fitness settings. Traditionally, the more explosive the movement, the shorter the work period should be, followed by a longer rest period. The work phase can be as short as three reps or 10 seconds, while rest can be as short as 20 seconds or as long as two minutes. Rest is important for ensuring proper biomechanics and mental focus. The following exercises are intended for the more advanced client. However, even explosive plyometrics can be progressed. Bulgarian Split Squat DB Press‼️⁣ ⁣ Here’s a video of one of my new favorite exercises. Not only am I training stability for my core and legs, I am also able to focus on teaching my body to transfer force throughout the body. When it comes to being explosive, we have to teach our muscles to work together to produce more power. In this case, I am utilizing the initial force produced by my legs and using that force/momentum to have a more explosive shoulder press.
