Preserving muscle while dieting! It is important to preserve your muscle when you start to cut fat. Muscle doesn't grow as fast as fat, so increasing the protein intake while dieting becomes important. 💪 Do not start with a bigger deficit; aim to lose not more than 1 kg per week. 💪Do not cut your carbs extremely low, they provide immediate energy to the body, in its absence; body will choose muscle to derive its energy. 💪Slower the loss, more you can eat and better are the chances for your muscle to stay. 💪 Do not over do on cardio. Keep it short and high intensity(not more than 2 days a week ) 💪Do not exhaust your muscles completely, since you are eating less; recovering them with food will be difficult. I would recommend lifting weights for no more than 4 days a week. 4 days lifting and 2 days high intensity for about 20 mins to 30 mins. RECOVERY THROUGH REST IS IMPORTANT. 💪Do not work the same muscle twice in a week, you can't build muscles in a cutting phase; so do not overload. 💪Focus on compound lifts, keep your rep range between 6-12 reps. 🐱 I’ve had this conversation with a few online coaching and training clients and friends lately, especially those who are new to a “healthy and fit”.⁣ ⁣ 👻 It’s ALWAYS going to take work. ⁣ ⁣ ☀️ You’re NEVER going to go back to eating whatever you want, whenever you want, without much conscious thought. ⁣ ⁣ 🍎 That life is OVER. ⁣ ⁣ 🦔 Even if you stop eating in a caloric deficit (I.e. phasing off a diet or increasing your calories to maintenance/above maintenance when you’ve reached an aesthetic goal ) it’s still going to take work.⁣ ⁣ 🏔 The society we live in doesn’t allow for passive food choices. We ALWAYS have to pay attention. ⁣ ⁣ 💥 And I know that can sound discouraging- but it’s also a little freeing. It means all this work you’re doing isn’t going to be for nothing- it means you’re learning, and growing, and you’re going to transition into a better, healthier, happier way of living.⁣ And trust me- you won’t want to look back. ⁣ 🤖 Also, I can promise you this: while it will always take work, it will also get easier. The longer you do it, the more intuitive you become. You will also become more practical (at least that’s the goal ). So if you overeat one day or one WEEK or whatever it may be, you’ll know what you need to go to get back on track immediately without having to deal with that damn snowball cycle you were used to in your dieting past. ⁣ ⁣ 🍄 It’s hard. It always will be. But it gets EASIER. Around this time last year I almost broke up with my now fiancé...⁣ ⁣ Yes, you heard me. Someone who I now couldn’t imagine my life without, I wanted to say goodbye!⁣ ⁣ I never really told anyone, so I’m kind of embarrassed saying this but it’s the truth. I had started dieting for my bikini competition. We had just gotten back from an amazing vacation. After this vacation, I knew Mark would be my forever. So why did I have the feelings of breaking up with him?! Was I scared of commitment, was I getting bored, did I want more?! ⁣ ⁣ No, no and hell no!! ⁣ ⁣ I was on a diet where I was eating sooo little calories and working out wayyy to much! I was lifting 6 days a week and doing cardio every single day. Thinking the more I did, the better results I was going to see. My dietary fat intake was well below recommended. So here I was putting all this neurological stress on myself and not supporting my hormones with my diet. ⁣ ⁣ Things I noticed: huge mood swings, always hangry, fatigued, no sex drive, and wanting to binge eat to name a few. ⁣ ⁣ Things were rough!! Thankfully I made big changes. I started working out less, eating more, and decreased cardio drastically!! Overeating is NOT the end of the world !! It's okay if you have binged on a pack of chips or anything you weren't supposed to eat. It does not mean you have done something bad. You need not punish yourself !! Doing extreme strict level of diet like forcing yourself to eat very little amounts of food to make up for the calories will lead you into stress, guilt and a poor relationship with yourself and food.
