#Regram #RG @rainforestalliance : The lungs of the Earth are in flames. 🔥 The Brazilian Amazon—home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species—has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year—a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil ). Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January. The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check. The Amazon needs more than our prayers. So what can YOU do? ✔ As an emergency response, donate to frontline Amazon groups working to defend the forest. ✔ Consider becoming a regular supporter of the Rainforest Alliance’s community forestry initiatives across the world’s most vulnerable tropical forests, including the Amazon; this approach is by far the most effective defense against deforestation and natural forest fires, but it requires deep, long-term collaboration between the communities and the public and private sectors. ✔ Stay on top of this story and keep sharing posts, tagging news agencies and influencers. ✔ Be a conscious consumer, taking care to support companies committed to responsible supply chains. Eliminate or reduce consumption of beef; cattle ranching is one of the primary drivers of Amazon deforestation. ✔ When election time comes, VOTE for leaders who understand the urgency of our climate crisis and are willing to take bold action—including strong governance and forward-thinking policy. #RainforestAlliance #SaveTheAmazon #PrayForAmazonia #AmazonRainforest #ActOnClimate #ForestsResist #ClimateCrisis 📸: @mohsinkazmitakespictures / Windy.com
To all my friends and fans please watch our NEW episode link in bio THIS IS MY HEART Mahalo @cnn for helping me spread the awareness. There is a growing movement in Hawai’i that cuts to the core of native rights to protect sacred lands and ensure the continuation of cultural practices. Mauna Kea was selected for the construction of the massive Thirty Meter Telescope being imposed by the University of California and CalTech along with the countries of Canada, China, Japan, and India. Despite another suitable location beyond Hawai’i, the TMT project is pushing forward to build 18 stories high and bore several stories into the ground over the island’s natural water aquifers in a conservation district. Hawaiians and their supporters have taken a ceremonial peaceful stance in solidarity with people around the world, not as an opposition to science, but as protectors of their sacred and revered mountain. Hawaiian people are truly children of the land, our history and language are infused in it. Our survival depends on what it can provide, and we look to our environment for spiritual guidance, it is part of our ancestral identity. To desecrate Mauna Kea is to do the same to the people. This is why we stand and say, “We are Mauna Kea!” Aloha J
Pls support kīa’i for the @protectmaunakea movement. During this time, we are trying to unite both kānaka and Hawai’i born peoples alike to protect not only the mauna, but also our way of life and greatest natural resources in Hawaii as a whole. We feel that our movement has successfully united all aspects of Hawaiian culture with the exception of our traditional ocean practices - namely surfing, fishing, paddling, etc. This is where you come in. Pls be an inspiration and raise awareness amongst the general public and the corporate realm to promote the conservation of our ‘āina for our generation and future generations to come. Post your ocean photo and hashtag #SurfersForMaunaKea #maukatomakai #kukiaimauna ——————————- #surfersformaunakea #maukatomakai #kukiaimauna #surfers #dahui #HuiOHeeNalu #makaha #northshore #protectors
FUCK THIS. And TMT is 4x bigger. Sorry Warner Bros we can’t shoot Aquaman 2. Because Jason got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land THIS iS NOT HAPPENING. WE ARE NOT LETTING YOU DO THIS ANYMORE. Enough is enough. Go somewhere else. Repost. This is what telescope construction looks like (Subaru Telescope, 1992 ). The TMT will be four times larger on unscathed land. We must protect our scared mountain from further desecration. #KuKiaiMauna #WeAreMaunaKea #TMTShutdown
ONE TRIBE. Human race. A huge mahalo to the members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe that came to the mauna yesterday to share their dances, support, love & solidarity with us. It means a lot for the people of standing rock to come to the mauna because we have kanaka here who have stood and stayed on their frontlines as well. That’s what it’s all about, standing with eachother and being there for eachother in times of need. 📸: @kapzphotography

Great day to be in Hawai’i Nei all my aloha to the protectors on the mauna. Aloha j - LĀ HO‘IHO‘I EA CELEBRATES THE RETURN OF SOVEREIGNTY TO THE HAWAIIAN KINGDOM [Contributed by the Kamehameha Schools Ho‘okahua Cultural Vibrancy Group] Did you know that the Hawaiian Kingdom had its own national holidays that were celebrated with as much zeal and pride as the Fourth of July is by Americans and Bastille Day by the French? Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, literally the day sovereignty was restored, was a holiday celebrated in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. Modern observations of this day include ceremonies taking place at different sites around Hawaiʻi, including a key commemoration at Thomas Square in Honolulu. The following is a narrative of the events that brought about this important day. In the year 1825, Richard Charlton arrived in Hawai‘i to assume the newly-created position of British ambassador to the islands. Fifteen years later, in 1840, his false claim to a parcel of land sparked the “Paulet Episode,” causing the forced cession and restoration of the sovereignty of the Hawaiian Islands. To substantiate his claim, Charlton submitted to Kauikeaouli, King Kamehameha III, what he asserted to be a 299-year lease for the land in question. This land was not his personal residence, Wailele, but an adjoining parcel named Pūlaholaho which was occupied by the retainers and heirs of Ka‘ahumanu. Charlton attested that it was granted to him by Kalanimoku in 1826. Kamehameha III rejected the claim, citing the fact that Kalanimoku, then kuhina nui or prime minister of the Hawaiian Kingdom, did not have the authority in 1826 to grant the lease. At that time, Ka‘ahumanu was kuhina nui, and only she and the king had the power to execute such grants. - #regrann

This badass just posted for us protectors. #repost @leonardodicaprio #RG @ashlukadraws : WE ARE MAUNA KEA. Standing in solidarity with protesters on Mauna Kea, protecting the Sacred ‘āina from scientific imperialism. It breaks my heart to see indigenous people and land continue to be dismissed by the state of Hawaii and its wealthy developers. Words from @kanielaing : “You don’t have to be Hawaiian to understand the dangerous precedent this sets. Mauna Kea impacts all of us. It’s an environmental struggle against wealthy developers who seek free reign. It’s a microcosm of what’s happening across Hawaii and the world: profiteers exploiting fragile places without regard for the future. We’re not concerned about how many passive dollars this will bring our economy. We are concerned about whether we will be able to breathe in 20 years, or be out of fresh water, or have any space left in our sacred places, or if the beaches we grew up in still be there. Some things are more important than a quick buck—like our planet’s and peoples’ survival. That would be $1.3 billion well spent. #maunakea #wearemaunakea #kukiaimauna ” To support, visit kahea.org / donate to Hawaii Community Bail Fund (link in highlights ) ❤️ ———————- This image was drawn using stills from my friends at @standingabovetheclouds , a beautiful, powerful portrayal of the mothers and sisters at the forefront of the fight to protect sacred land on the Big Island.

Regardless of your personal views on TMT, this image reminds us that Aloha, Mahalo and Makawalu should always prevail. As staff and kumu we all have personal views - many haumāna, kumu and allies are on the Mauna or supporting in some way. As an educational nonprofit, we try not to impose anyoneʻs personal views, but rather encourage Mahalo (Respect & Appreciation ), Makawalu (ʻEight Eyesʻ - being open to many perspectives ) and respectful conversation and action toward positive change and pono. We send our pule and aloha to ALL on the mauna, including the police officers and those who see things differently. In fear of sending the wrong message, some of us had reservations about showing too many shots in our video of ʻHawaiian against Hawaiianʻ - those in uniform and those in ʻprotestʻ at Mauna Kea and the Waimanalo Evictions. As 1 of many ways we can practice Makawalu, check out this #Repost from @mahinadahui808 : As someone who comes from a law enforcement Ohana, this photo hits home. We know some of those kānaka officers who are up at Pu’u Huluhulu and for the ones we know & spoke to, they don’t really want to be there. It’s hard when you take an oath to serve & protect and then comes duties like this. I saw the tears and uncomfortable demeanor as they stood in formation facing their own people. But, they have families to feed. Mortgages/Rent, etc. Also have relatives in the Lāhui. Even Ohana to some of the kūpuna that were arrested. Such a hard position to be in. And they’re only under orders from the top. So that’s where we need to put our focus on. Governor Ige, you can stop this madness. Obviously you haven’t noticed, kānaka maoli are beautiful people full of Kapu Aloha. We are not the enemy. Stop the Madness Now. #kukiaimauna 🔺

Please go follow my friend @jimmychin go to link in his bio if u want sign petition. I’ve been tracking and supporting the fight to stop the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay for years, much like I’ve been following and supporting the fight to preserve the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Boundary Waters from mining. These are important issues because the impact of mining in these prisitine places is devastating and irreversible. Beyond preserving these wild places for their intrinsic value and the important habitats they contain, if we can’t protect these pristine wilderness areas from the extraction industry, what can we protect? What legacy do we want to leave our children? We owe it to them, to the wildlife, the landscapes and ourselves to fight for these irreplaceable habitats. Hit the link in my bio to sign the petition against Pebble Mine. ————————————— Via my good friends @cristinamittermeier @paulnicklen and @sealegacy : We've reached zero hour for Pebble Mine. The window of time left to convince Congressional leaders that political intervention is necessary to stop Pebble Mine's permitting process is closing fast. In 2014, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA ) published the Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment after an exhaustive, three-year process evaluating the risks posed by the Pebble Mine. They concluded that even under a best-case scenario, Pebble would pose an unacceptable risk to Bristol Bay’s watershed and wild fish. Five years later, Pebble is closer than ever before to being permitted. Under the current Administration, EPA leadership has reversed course on its 2014 determination, and has instead set out to fast-track the permitting process at unprecedented speed.
