Woolly locusts eating everything on the fells - the reason that The Lake District mountains do not have more diverse vegetation and many more trees growing upon them 😐

Dom - Land and Sky

Instagram seems to be fascinated with sheep now. They are nice creatures, but the industry here has caused huge harm to our biodiversity and wildlife, and many sheep farmers are trapped in a cycle of low pay and punishing work. And our government gives out money to maintain what is essentially a failing, unsustainable system and 100's of non-viable businesses that continue to damage the land. There is a rich heritage associated with it, and some people are really trying to make changes, but there are also very very negative impacts on our landscape and people. Conveniently, it is a cute concept that can be sold to tourists, but I wish people (who genuinely love this landscape ) would take a little time to understand the context before they promote it further. Read Monbiot's book Feral if you want to understand this more. No disrespect, you clearly have the best intentions, but this is not 'showcasing the best of the Lake District', this is celebrating what damages it.
