I thought this article did a great job of explaining the fuel behind some of the decisions that have been made is those two districts. Expect more to come, and other districts should be able to benefit from the decisions and outcomes that will follow in both Waco and Dallas I.S.D.’s #statesman #wacoisd #dallasisd #austinisd

Principal Kermit Ward: This is a creative way to address the salary shortfall of teachers. This is more meaningful in some areas than in others. For teachers in Austin Texas, this would be more significant than teachers in say Tyler or Lubbock, Texas. #austinisd #dallasisd #Statesman #wacoisd

Principal Kermit Ward: I got two things from this story: 1 ) All teachers should move to the North to gain access to those large salaries, then retire and come to the South. 2 ) Although one of these teachers is from Texas, I don’t think things are or could ever get this bad here. The I.S.D.’s that I have worked within did a great job of readying the classrooms and building and ensuring that students and staff were adequately supplied. #wacoisd #dallasisd #statesman #austinisd https://nyti.ms/2EQjEHd

Principal Kermit Ward: I am a firm believer that the only difference in educating kids lies within teacher salaries and the local cost of living. NYC and California somewhat prove that. Principals must learn to use their allotted funds in a more smart and efficient way. Often the root cause of poor student performance lies in the decisions or lack of urgency of the campus administration. #wacoisd #dallasisd #statesman https://bit.ly/2pFM2aq

Principal Kermit Ward: I have 23 years in public school education, and at each stop, I can assure you that parents were the key difference-makers in students positioned at the top of a class and those that were at the bottom. I agree with his article in the fact that school officials must take time to provide the “why” to parents often. #wacoisd #dallasisd #statesman https://bit.ly/2qImFF6

Principal Kermit Ward: Strikes usually end with sides meeting in the middle if possible. A middle ground solution should have been anticipated on both sides. Teachers asked for 10k and got $6,100 and many of the other things they asked for. They should consider this mission accomplished and get back to work. Any longer away from teaching will unravel any academic progress made with kids this year. #Statesman https://fxn.ws/2ve95yc

https://bit.ly/2qr5o2D Principal Kermit Ward: I encourage the public to trust school leadership. The recent tragedies that have occurred in schools force school leaders to adjust. We have not completely plugged the hole, but we are conscious of the fact that we need to be constantly aware of the forces that threaten student safety. @wacoisd @dallasisd @statesman

Principal Kermit Ward: The demographics have changed during a relatively short period of time yet those standing in front of kids have not adjusted well to these changes. I believe if we have purposeful pursuit of this we can change this. Don't just like it; share it. @wacoisd @dallasisd @statesman https://bit.ly/2Go7VB5

https://nyti.ms/2FCtHRl Principal Kermit Ward: Changing the trajectory of a failing school is not the work of 1 leader, but outstanding schools have leaders who enter with a plan and direction to create an atmosphere of collaboration and the confidence in themselves to accept criticism, if necessary, from the staff. If you like this article, don't just like it, share it. #Statesman #texaseducation

Principal Kermit Ward: This video came from the Austin American Statesman. I thought it was interesting that teacher pay is in the middle. Texas teachers are likely even worse off than reported when you have to factor in paying part of your insurance premiums. When I started my career in Waco I.S.D. insurance was fully funded. #austintx #texaseducation #statesman https://bit.ly/2GC1kHy

https://cnn.it/2GCOqt2 Principal Kermit Ward: I am truly pro-police. Decisions are made in split seconds and the police need to make sure they make it home to their loved ones too. The family wants to rely on the victim being mentally unstable; well is it not their responsibility to ensure that he does not end up in an inappropriate or compromising situation? That tool would look like a gun to me too. #austintx #statesman

Principal Kermit Ward: Probably not the most proper thing to say by a Governor. I don’t know too many people who do not respect the complexities and value of a teacher’s job. Oklahoma needs to buy the new car. I hope Austin, Texas is paying attention and does not let Texas get to this point. #Connally #statesman #okedrally #texaseducation https://fxn.ws/2JjTSyx

Kermit Ward: I have always said there is strength in numbers. Teachers should be some of the highest paid pros yet the volume of staff members needed for duty makes that an inappropriate idea. Still, states can do better. http://time.com/5225514/oklahoma-kentucky-schools-teachers-strike/ #educationiskey #Statesman #OklahomaEducation

Kermit Ward: There was so much great content discussed at the TBCSBC in Austin last week. Waco I.SD. was one of the stronger panelist. Interesting comparison to note: Waco has 24 campuses with 5 of them rated as improvement required (IR ) (20 percent ) where Houston has 10 (IR ) schools but 284 schools which is 3 percent. Dr. Nelson did not create this inappropriate problem but I believe he has the passion to fix it. #tbcsbc Statesman #confernce #texaseducation

Kermit Ward: On a recent trip to Washington DC, I visited The National Museum of African American History and Culture. Seeing this plaque on education made me think. Our minority kids need to understand the importance of why teachers show up daily and why some of our practices are targeted to prepare them. #educationiskey Statesman #educationfirst #educationmatters
