“This was in an abandoned hotel that I lived in for a few months. [My] drawing, which eventually grew to be much larger, remained on the stucco of the bricks after the building was demolished a year or so later. The room was on the second or maybe third floor, so passersby were impressed to see a drawing which obviously took months to complete stuck to the side of a building.” — @justinduerr Justin Duerr: Surrender to Survival opens at Intuit on June 27, with an official free opening reception on Thursday, July 25, 5-8 p.m. . This Stillness is an exploration into the complexities of Black girlhood and womanhood and the quiet reflections of self that arise from these circumstances. The exhibition goes beyond the contemporary use of a traditional Black American art form—assemblage—and delves into themes of autonomy, self-reflection, and the dehumanization of Black women and girls. At the same time, the exhibition serves as an archive of personal, familial and cultural identity. Curated by Jamillah Hinson. . Free opening reception at Intuit on Thursday, April 4, 5-8 p.m. .
